With little effort, you'll no doubt notice the items we offer are regionally influenced. Our artists at this point are members of woodland tribes and their work reflects this. Our business is blessed to be located in a wonderful location within Central Michigan with Chippewa River and surrounding forests nearby.
About Our Smudge Bundles
Our property consists of several acres where most all our medicinal herbs and plants grow and are harvested. The plants used in our Smudge Bundles are not exposed to chemicals and some are wild harvested in locations that are also free of chemical and other contaminants. For this reason, our bundles may appear different from those sold commercially on a large scale. Also note that bundles will be in various stages of drying. You may need to expose yours to sunshine and fresh air to hasten the process if its still a tad green.
We assemble and tie each bundle by hand with attention to balanced blending. Each bundle averages 7.5 inches long and 3/4 inch in diameter. They are typically bound tight and are therefore generally long lasting depending on the blend. Most of our blends use Cedar as the outermost carrier layer. This is intentional from the standpoint and belief that the Evergreen symbolizes the eternal spirit. We hope you'll be mindful of this when using our bundles and reflect on what meaningful contributions you might invest in the everlasting. AHO (So Be It)
Lastly, bundles may vary in appearance from what is pictured, as stated above, due level of curing (dryness). To simplify product presentation, we use the same picture for all bundles utilizing Cedar. Additionally, we recommend bundles be quite dry for best use. However, we personally prefer leaving ours a bit green so as to slow and limit burn rate.
Medicinal** Plants: Our Philosophy
According to ancient teachings, it was believed the core essence of plants was spirit. Gitchi Manido, Creator, Great Mystery, Spirit, or Source shared their essence with not only plants, but all that exists. Each plant, like us two-legged uprights, is endowed with unique qualities that, when used with respect and honor, may offer benefit. Some were designated Sacred and used to help keep The People connected to Source. There's plenty of information online about the practice of smudging, it's history, and uses. How you use smudge bundles, and for what, rests with you. What we offer here is our unique perspective on the plants we harvest, their essence, and some popular beliefs about some of their potential and beneficial properties.
The following is a list of plants and flowers we use in creation of our bundles. Note, we also include a few highlights (on a few of the plants listed) of what essence theory assigns to certain plants and flowers. Lavender: Lavender also has one of the longest histories for use as a medicinal plant. The Egyptians used it for mummification and as a perfume. The Romans used it for bathing, cooking and for scenting the air. And, quite possibly the most famous usage of all, Mary used it to anoint Jesus with her hair and and some believe spikenard was made from lavender essential oil. Many researchers claim that 2,000 years ago, lavender was referred to as spikenard or simply nard from the Greek name for lavender, naardus, after the Syrian city Naarda. This really puts the power of lavender into perspective, doesn’t it?
“Mary then took a pound of very costly perfume of pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped His feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.” ~ John 12:3
Lavender is a powerful antioxidant and its essence is primarily soothing. It's energy is especially comforting for those who tend to be highly absorbent of spiritual influence to the point of gaining more than can be processed through the body. This form of overwhelm is harsh on the immune system via overall stress creation. It's no wonder Lavender is the most used essential oil in the world.
